Beginning in February 2025, IPS will hold a 5-month program to train differently-abled students in basic construction, basic concrete and workplace readiness skills. The program will provide students with:

  • Skill training in construction and basic understanding of concrete
  • Ability to earn industry certifications
  • Preparation for the employment process
  • A small learning environment and slower-paced instruction
  • Lessons taught by a trade instructor, teaching assistant and behavioral educator

IPS will train a small group of students using a curriculum that focuses on construction skills to prepare them for entry-level positions in construction by providing the basics in safety, hand and power tools, construction math, materials handling, construction drawings, rigging and employability skills. Our students will also receive an introduction to concrete construction to enhance their portfolio of skills.

Admission Process

Applicants are asked to fill out our online application, which contains questions aimed at gathering information about their educational background, diagnosis/diagnoses, medical needs as well as areas of strengths and/or challenges. We ask that the applicant, NOT by a parent/guardian, fill out the application as much as possible.

IPS charges a $100 application fee for processing applications. Please pay online or send a check to IPS at 750 23rd St. S, Arlington, VA 22202 (please reference the applicant’s name and date the application was submitted).

The application is the first of a 3-part process for applicants. Upon a review of a completed application, the IPS Team will invite selected applicants for an in-person assessment with an occupational therapist and our trade instructor to evaluate their ability to participate in our program. The final part of the process is an applicant interview with the IPS team. Application decisions will be made in December 2024
