Justin Boatner has been advocating for people with disabilities for many years, beginning in high school through local chapters of disability organizations, Best Buddies and Athletes Without Limits. After high school, he continued with his advocacy efforts though an organization called I’m Determined with encouragement from a former teacher. Justin has multiple disabilities including autism spectrum disorder, severe hearing impairment, incontinence, generalized anxiety disorder and a physical disability that limits him from doing a lot of walking and requires the use of crutches and a power chair.
Despite his challenges, Justin got into politics after finishing his schooling. Through his political connections, he has advocated staunchly for people with disabilities. He credits his parents and disability advocate Richard Pimentel, who helped get the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) passed, as the sources of his determination. Justin refuses to give up. Justin also has a Podcast channel called Autism with a Voice, where he advocates for autistic people and gives parents insight into how he and others like him view certain situations.
